Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens is the home to one of the most rare and unparalleled collections of palms and cycads in the country. Cycads are living fossils, having existed for nearly 280 million years on earth since the Cretaceous and Jurassic periods. Ann Norton and her friend, Sir Peter Smithers, world-renowned botanist, landscape architect, member of British Parliament and inspiration for the character “Smithers” in the James Bond series, designed this beautiful rare tropical garden complete with over 250 different species of plants. It is indeed a rare gift to experience the monumental, silent, mysterious sculptures created in situ over a period of 15 years by Ann Norton, amongst the rare palm and cycad collection situated on the Intracoastal Waterway in West Palm Beach.

After moving to South Florida from Chicago, CJ McCartney started learning how to be aknowledgeable and effective Environmental Steward. Along with training to become a Master Gardener, she started taking a variety of botanical and horticulture classes as well as seminars to supplement her formal education in public policy and urban management. Currently, she vouchers native plants for ERM, serves on the Board of the Florida Wildflower Foundation and works as the Master Gardener in Residence at Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens.
