Imperiled: Florida’s Wildlife and Habitats
Recent Paintings by Paul Gervais
Imperiled: Florida’s Wildlife and Habitats opens on October 1, 2025, and runs through January 11, 2026, featuring more than 30 new paintings by artist Paul Gervais. The exhibition highlights the delicate beauty and fragility of Florida’s natural environments, capturing vivid scenes of the state’s diverse landscapes—from swamps and sloughs to coastal bluffs and inland scrublands. Gervais also brings to life a range of native bird species, including spoonbills, hawks, red-headed woodpeckers, owls, and mockingbirds. His paintings offer more than just visual appreciation; they serve as a powerful reminder of what’s at stake. “Sure, this is about the art first and foremost,” Gervais says. “But my thoughts and concerns, as I work, are also on conservation. We need to understand that once this patrimony is gone it’s gone forever. I want to remind us of that fact with these paintings.”
