In Full Bloom: Flowers in the Garden – Pressed Flower Collage Portraits by Artist in Residence Bruce Helander

Bruce Helander will serve as Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens’ seventh Artist in Residence for 2026/2027, creating a series of pressed flower collage portraits inspired by Palm Beach personalities and historical and cultural figures. The works on view also will include two of the most famous portraits of women in history embellished in blooms: Mona Lisa (Leonardo da Vinci) and Marilyn Monroe (Andy Warhol), as well as two of the most prominent women in Palm Beach history, Marjorie Merriweather Post and Jacqueline Kennedy. Each collage portrait is carefully crafted using pressed, dried flowers and floral imagery.

Helander’s work is represented in 53 museum permanent collections, including the Norton Museum of Art, which holds 27 of his collages. His work also is in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian Institution and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. His distinguished credentials include induction into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame, one of only four lifetime recipients from Palm Beach, alongside Ralph Hubbard Norton, Jimmy Buffett, and Laura Woodward. He is also a former White House Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts, earned a master’s degree in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, and has studied at Harvard University and Yale University. Helander is also the author of Flower Power – The Paintings of Carol Calicchio.

Photographer Nick Mele presents a whimsical fine art series inspired by vintage automobiles and Palm Beach glamour. Classic cars are staged in cinematic scenes across storied Palm Beach properties, blending nostalgia, theatricality and visual storytelling celebrating the 10th Annual Sculpture in Motion.

Alexander Calder: Horizons

Alexander Calder: Clay, Horizons presents a rich survey of the artist’s work across mediums, sculptures, paintings, gouaches, tapestries, and prints, marking the first exhibition to bring these mediums together in Palm Beach in over 50 years.

The exhibition explores themes that recur throughout Calder’s late print cycles, mobiles, and paintings: the iconography of marine life, allegory, and the complexity of organic and physical systems. Exhibition materials and programming will delve into Calder’s fascination with art and science, the significance of Dimensionism in his early works, and little-studied narratives illustrated by Calder, including La Mémoire Élémentaire (1973) and Our Unfinished Revolution (1975).

At the heart of the exhibition are examples of Calder’s iconic sculptures, gouaches of marine subjects, prints from allegorical narratives, and limited edition tapestries.
