The Adventures of Charlie Pierce
The American Jungle
By Harvey E. Oyer III

Children Inspiring Children – Enriching Students’ Lives with Stories and History in the Gardens This video program features the book, The Adventures of Charlie Pierce: The American Jungle, by award winning children’s author and Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens trustee, Harvey Oyer. The book is part of a series based on Oyer’s family history and places and events on the South Florida frontier during the late nineteenth century. The book series is required reading in many public and private schools in Florida at the 4th grade level as well as home schooled students.  The video includes 10 children delivering a creative storytelling experience while reading a chapter of the book aloud in their favorite part of the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens tropical jungle.

“The Adventures of Charlie Pierce: The American Jungle is a true Florida adventure,” said Oyer, “and the tropical setting of the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens provides the perfect backdrop for students to read this historic story to other students. While families are navigating through their own adventure while isolated in their homes, we hope the natural beauty of the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens and the exciting journey of Charlie Pierce can bring some happiness and serenity to everyone’s lives, especially during this time.”
