Fifteenth Annual Literacy Day (K-5)

November 14, 2022

Florida Standards: VA, LA, SC

Now in its fifteenth year, Literacy Day invites more than 200 Title 1 elementary school students to participate in an interactive and immersive program designed to push the boundaries of traditional education and learn in ANSG’s historic Artist Studio and green oasis.

Literacy Day introduces young learners to a diverse collection of nationally known professionals ranging from authors, illustrators and librarians, to spoken word poets, depicting how literacy is essential to success in school and beyond.  By utilizing multiple platforms for these comprehensive introductions to early literacy, students actively identify important vocabulary and engage in interactive storytelling and writing.  The mission of this day is specifically designed to inspire every student to embrace the impact of becoming a lifelong reader.  Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens is proud share The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy is partnering with us this year and will be sending two of their authors, Naaz Khan and Kat Zhang to present stations.

Literacy Day is made possible by the generosity of Cynthia Sulzberger.

Teachers and students alike voted it their favorite school visit and can’t wait to return next year.

“Thank you for an absolutely fabulous field trip! In my 16 years of teaching, I believe it is the best I have ever had the pleasure of attending. All staff and students agree with me on that! Kudos to you and all participating who made Literacy Day at the Ann Norton Sculpture Garden a HUGE success! We can’t wait until next year!”
