16th Annual Literacy Day (K-2)

November 14, 2023

Florida Standards: VA, LA, SC

250 Title 1 students will participate in an interactive and immersive program designed to push the boundaries of traditional education and learn in ANSG’s historic Artist Studio and green oasis. This program is designed to connect to National Family Literacy Month and help students develop fundamental skills for success in school and life. Literacy Day plays an integral role in the foundational building blocks of learning, introducing young learners to a diverse collection of professionals ranging from authors, artists, illustrators, puppeteers, and musicians, depicting how literacy is essential to success in school and beyond.  By utilizing performing and visual arts as the platform for these comprehensive introductions to early literacy, students actively identify important vocabulary and engage in interactive storytelling and writing.  The mission of this day is specifically designed to inspire every student to embrace the impact of becoming a lifelong reader. Teachers and students alike voted it their favorite school visit and can’t wait to return.

“Thank you for an absolutely fabulous field trip! In my 16 years of teaching, I believe it is the best I have ever had the pleasure of attending. All staff and students agree with me on that! Kudos to you and all participating who made Literacy Day at the Ann Norton Sculpture Garden a HUGE success! We can’t wait until next year!”
